John Achterberg One Of The Most Decorated Goalkeeper Coaches in History

John Achterberg is by fact one of the top 3 most decorated goalkeeper coaches in football/soccer history.
He’s won everything you could possibly win: Champions League UEFA Super cup, FIFA Club (intercontinental) cup, FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield and Barclays Premier League.

John spend a large portion of his playing career as a goalkeeper at Tranmere Rovers in the EFL League Two and at the end of his playing career became the club’s first team goalkeeper coach.

John Achterberg in 2009 made the move to legendary soccer team Liverpool FC, taking the spot as Goalkeeper Academy Director. It didn’t take that much time for the club to see that John was the best pick to join the first team as goalkeeper coach and the move was made 2 seasons later in 2011.John stood strong even when he was criticized for some first team goalkeepers poor performances and in 2018 proved his point taking Brazilian goalkeeper “Alisson” to the top of the world. Thanks to John’s dedication Alisson is todays #1 goalkeeper worldwide!

John  has worked under several different managers during his time with the club, with the majority spent as part of Jürgen Klopp’s coaching team. Klopp was appointed as Liverpool FC first team manager in 2015 and brought several members of his Borussia Dortmund coaching staff with him, however Klopp opted to integrate John Achterberg into his set-up with the pair sharing a similar philosophy on the role of modern-day goalkeepers.
